Located in northern California and surrounded by four national forests, Pacific Sun Gourmet has been a family-run business since 1952. Jane Flynn and her son Brendon oversee sustainable plots growing plums, walnuts, almonds, and olives. They do their own milling and are able to produce interesting blends by combining both early- and late-harvest olives.
The Riverview Ranch Tuscan Blend–made from Frantoio and Leccino olives–is Pacific Sun’s only robust olive oil, modeled after Tuscan oils but not nearly as peppery. It is great for dipping bread or as a finishing touch on entrées.
Want to get a firsthand view? Every November, Pacific Sun holds its “Love at First Crush” event so people can see how olive oil is made: visitors take a hay ride to pick olives from the Mission trees and then participate in the milling process with Brendon. And lest we forget we’re in northern California, two local wineries are on-hand with wine tastings, too.
